Econics clean up for Riverside

Municipal truck hire specialist Riverside Truck Rental has undergone a change of ownership but one thing has remained constant – the company’s faith in Mercedes-Benz trucks.

One of Britain’s biggest operators of Mercedes Econic refuse chassis, Riverside placed its latest order with Enza, Warrington.

Its 10 6x4 Econic 2628s are fitted with various compactor bodies and lifts for trade and commercial waste bins, while the three 4x2 Econic 1823s have Terberg Kerbsider bodies. All have joined Riverside’s spot hire fleet.

The company changed ownership in the spring of 2006 and is now under the control of Sid Sadique, a former Biffa Waste Management Director.

Operations Director Chris Snelson says: “We are growing the business. Some of these trucks are natural replacements – we have a five-year rolling programme – but others represent an expansion of the fleet.

“The Econic has given us excellent reliability, allied to competitive r&m costs and very strong residual values. The back-up from the Mercedes-Benz network is excellent too, which is an important factor for a national operation such as ours. Crucially, it’s also a vehicle that our customers want to use.”

As well as its Econics, Riverside has taken delivery of 23 Mercedes Actros tractor units from Enza this year, for its distribution fleet. A combination of 4x2 and 6x2 units, with 440 and 460hp engines, they have replaced older Actros models which have been stood down after three years.

“We were very happy with the old Actros but with their improved cabs the latest models are even more attractive. We’ve put a significant number of tractors onto the fleet recently and its total strength is now up to about 650 vehicles,” adds Mr Snelson.
