A year’s impressive service from its first Mercedes truck was enough to persuade construction group G+J Seddon to invest in three more Axor 18-tonners.

Supplied by Enza, Warrington, the Axor 1823s are all skip-loaders with Edbro gear. One runs in G+J Seddon colours, and is based in Bolton, while the other two work for sister company Circle Liverpool.

G+J Seddon runs 14 trucks, including some Mercedes, but had previously favoured a rival manufacturer.

“We had been happy with our previous supplier but when our sales contact, Clive Wainwright, moved to Enza he persuaded us to try a Mercedes,” recalls Fleet Manager Steve Pagett.

“We had some reservations but it turned out to be a cracking truck. The driver loved it too; he said it had more power, a better turning circle and was an easier drive than his previous vehicle. So we had no hesitation in returning to Enza for this latest order.”

The Axor are covered by five-year repair and maintenance contracts and have joined a fleet of 17 trucks. They are now collecting skips from construction sites across the north-west, for both new-build and refurbishment contracts, and delivering loads to a waste recycling centre.

“We are very committed to recycling, and we recover as much material as possible from the construction debris that we collect, including glass, timber, plastics and hardcore,” adds Mr Pagett.

“The Axor are extremely well built and stand up to rough site conditions as well as anything we’ve seen.

“They also have plenty of power and although ours is not a high-mileage application, their fuel returns are being monitored and I do think we’re getting a few more miles per gallon from them than we do from similar vehicles.”
