MB Groundbreaking tools up with Mercedes Sprinter

Four of the new Sprinters are Long chassis cabs, with dropside bodies by Commercial Body Specialists, of Tunstall, Stoke; the fifth is a Medium-bodied panel van. They have lined up alongside 15 other Sprinters and a smaller Mercedes Vito.

The dropsiders are used as support vehicles for excavating teams, removing waste material and transporting equipment such as barriers, cones and fencing sheets, while the van has been allocated to a service engineer.

MB Groundbreaking also runs five double-drive 26-tonne Mercedes Actros, two of them special, heavy-duty models imported direct from Germany. All are fitted with suction excavators, which are used to expose underground utilities while minimising the risk of damage to pipe or cables.

Formed in 1993, MB Groundbreaking moved recently from its previous base in Stoke-on-Trent to a new headquarters on the Four Ashes Industrial Estate, Wolverhampton. The company operates nationwide as a contractor for the likes of Balfour Beatty, National Grid, South Staffs Water and Morgan Est, a leading provider of infrastructure services across the public and private sector.

“We’ve been running Mercedes Sprinters since the late 1990s and have always found them to be extremely reliable,” says MB Groundbreaking’s Plant & Transport Manager Mick Dysart. “We tend to run them for seven years, during which they typically clock up about 200,000 miles and rarely let us down.

“Mercedes-Benz van are also competitively priced and come with excellent back-up in terms of the availability of spares, and the reassurance of Mercedes Service 24h, which provides round-the-clock roadside assistance through the manufacturer’s extensive dealer network. We will be ordering more Sprinters as our current vehicles come up for renewal.”

MB Groundbreaking services its own vehicles and carries a range of imprest stock, which Enza keeps up to date. “The dealer has been very good,” explains Mr Dysart. “Any teething problems have been quickly dealt with by van sales executive Ian Smith and truck sales executive Dave Glover.”

Like all Sprinters, MB Groundbreaking’s vans come with an unlimited mileage, three-year warranty. They also bristle with standard active and passive safety features designed to offer the highest possible degree of protection to their occupants and other road users. These include the latest Adaptive version of the ESP® anti-skid system pioneered by Mercedes-Benz and Bosch, which dynamically monitors the vehicle’s load status while it is on the move.

RSS feeds

How does it work?

RSS InformationRSS is usually said to stand for Really Simple Syndication. It works differently from an email alert. Feeds update automatically when a website changes. But you can check them as often or a little as you like.

Using RSS Feeds

Individuals who want to get RSS Feeds delivered straight to their desktop need a news reader. This is the software that checks the feeds and lets you read new information that has been added.

There are different kinds of news readers, some accessed with a browser and some which have to be downloaded. Browser-based news readers let you pick up your feeds from any computer while downloadable readers let you store them on your main computer.

Setting up a feed differs from one reader to another, but it generally involves copying the URL of the feed from the address bar on your browser and pasting it into the reader.

Some of the available news readers are:
