Mark Harrod nets a winner

Mark Harrod nets a winner

A company that supplies goalposts and other football equipment to some of Britain’s best-known professional clubs has beefed-up its own team by signing a real three-pointed star performer!

Fast-growing Mark Harrod, which operates from a head office near Beccles, in Suffolk, and a recently expanded manufacturing facility at Seighford, Staffordshire, has bought a 7.5-tonne Mercedes Atego from Enza, Stoke-on-Trent.
An 818 model with high-roofed sleeper cab, it has a 7.7-metre curtainside body by Commercial Body Specialists, also of Stoke, which can carry posts and cross bars of up to 7.6 metres in length.

Although his firm has only been trading for four years, Managing Director Mark Harrod has a long track record in the industry and now supplies equipment to Chelsea FC, as well as Championship clubs like Birmingham, Coventry and Leicester City.

Other customers include the Football Association, local authorities and schools – Mark Harrod is committed to supporting the game at grass roots level and sponsors the Staffordshire County Youth Cup and Birmingham County FA Sunday Youth Cup.

The firm’s recent acquisition of a second unit at Seighford, close to the M6, has allowed it to double manufacturing capacity. The Atego is its first truck and certainly a head-turner, thanks to its striking green paintwork and the football action graphics that adorn its curtains.

Works Director Sean Wallet says: “We have been relying on a Mercedes Sprinter van but the business continues to grow and we’d reached a point where we realised we needed a bigger vehicle. “The Sprinter’s been good and Mercedes-Benz trucks have such a great reputation for quality and reliability, as well as being backed by a first-class dealer network, that an Atego was the obvious choice.

“The Atego is making a big contribution towards improving the efficiency of our distribution operation, as well as attracting a lot of positive comments from customers – the Mercedes star is all about prestige and quality, which are values that we’re keen to develop for our own business.”

RSS feeds

How does it work?

RSS InformationRSS is usually said to stand for Really Simple Syndication. It works differently from an email alert. Feeds update automatically when a website changes. But you can check them as often or a little as you like.

Using RSS Feeds

Individuals who want to get RSS Feeds delivered straight to their desktop need a news reader. This is the software that checks the feeds and lets you read new information that has been added.

There are different kinds of news readers, some accessed with a browser and some which have to be downloaded. Browser-based news readers let you pick up your feeds from any computer while downloadable readers let you store them on your main computer.

Setting up a feed differs from one reader to another, but it generally involves copying the URL of the feed from the address bar on your browser and pasting it into the reader.

Some of the available news readers are:
